Dietrich Harder Master’s Thesis Award 2026 and PTW Poster Award Presented

At the 2026 DGMP Annual Meeting in Bamberg, the Dietrich Harder Master’s Thesis Award, sponsored by PTW, was awarded to Nicolas Mühlschlegel on September 19. The award recognizes an outstanding master’s thesis in the field of medical physics each year.

The award-winning thesis, “Advanced Motion Prediction for MRgRT with Long-Short Term Memory Networks for STAR Treatments of Ventricular Tachycardia”, investigates the use of artificial intelligence to predict cardiac and respiratory motion during MR-guided STAR treatments. The results demonstrate that adaptive AI models can provide highly accurate real-time motion prediction and may contribute to improved motion management and treatment accuracy in the future.

Mühlschlegel completed his Master’s degree in Physics with a specialization in Medical Physics at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2025. He is currently pursuing his PhD at the LMU ART Lab in the research group of Prof. Guillaume Landry while simultaneously completing his clinical training as a Medical Physics Expert in radiation therapy.

In addition, Anna Becker received the Poster Award in the field of dosimetry, sponsored by PTW Freiburg. The award-winning poster was titled “Neutron Exposure under Bragg Peak FLASH: A Monte Carlo Study of Pediatric Cranial Irradiation.”

PTW congratulates Mr. Mühlschlegel and Ms. Becker on their achievements and wishes them continued success in their careers in medical physics.
