Our Accreditations

Accredited dosimetry calibration laboratory since 1979

and member of the IAEA/WHO SSDL Network since 2000

Traceable calibrations.

Internationally recognized.

As one of the largest independent accredited secondary standard dosimetry laboratories (SSDL) worldwide, the PTW Calibration Lab has the experience, proven competence and capability to provide radiological calibrations for a wide range of dosimetry equipment used in radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging and radiation protection. All calibrations are traceable to internationally recognized standards via ILAC MRA and EA, delivering results you can trust.

Accuracy. Confidence. Trust.

The PTW Calibration Lab meets the requirements of the following standards, which demonstrate our ability to consistently deliver technically valid test and calibration results.

DAkkS Accreditation since 1979

Our Calibration Lab is accredited by the national German accreditation body DAkkS (formerly DKD) according to the standard EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and the directives 93/42/EEC and 90/385/EEC.

DAkkS accreditation provides the highest level of calibration standards. It certifies that our lab is capable of performing radiological calibrations for dosimetry measurement devices used in radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging and radiation protection to a set of internationally agreed upon standards.

DAkkS calibration certificates are recognized internationally under the
ILAC MRA (Mutual Recognition Agreement of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation). Calibrations performed by laboratories that have been accredited by an ILAC MRA signatory meet the same minimum quality standards. Calibration certificates and results are mutually recognized and directly traceable to national and international primary standards laboratories.

Having your radiation measuring device calibrated by us, gives you full confidence in the accuracy and reliability of the calibrations.

Scope of Accreditation

Calibrations  are available for:

  • Absorbed energy to water Dw measured in Gray (Gy)
  • Air Kerma Ka measured in Gray (Gy)
  • Ambient equivalent dose H*(10) and  photon equivalent dose Hx measured in Sievert (Sv)
  • DC voltage / practical peak voltage PPV, for non-invasive voltage measurement

The standard procedure is factory calibration; formal DAkkS (SSDL) calibration can be performed upon request. The reference air pressure for calibration is 1013 hPa, and the reference ambient temperature can be 20 or 22 °C, which the user must specify. The uncertainties stated correspond to the double standard deviation (k = 2), calculated according to EAL-R21. If a radioactive check device is available, the check reading under standard conditions is stated on the calibration certificate.

General Information: According to the PTW definition, each such set of beam qualities represents one calibration point for a certain application and can be ordered with a single order number.

  • Diagnostic X-ray generator high voltage of all types of X-ray equipment measured non-invasively by kV-meters: Different ranges from 20 to 150 kV

Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory since 2000

The SSDL network was established by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the World Health Organization (WHO) to improve the accuracy in radiation dosimetry. Its members are accredited secondary standard dosimetry laboratories designated by IAEA member states.

The PTW Calibration Lab has been a member of the IAEA/WHO SSDL Network since 2000. As a secondary standard dosimetry laboratory (SSDL), it performs calibrations for dosimetry measurement equipment, which are traceable to the International System of Units (SI) through recognized national metrology institutes (NMI).

General Requirements for the Competence of Testing and Calibration Laboratories

ISO 17025 is the global quality standard for testing and calibration laboratories and the basis to obtain DAkkS accreditation. As an ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory, the PTW Calibration Lab has proven the technical competence of its staff as well as the suitability of its facilities to consistently produce valid test and calibration results, which are traceable to internationally recognized standards.

Why ISO 17025 Accreditation Matters

Not all calibrations are the same.
